Learn More About This Prestigious Award
Each year, The Gaines House honors a woman who is a role model for the women we serve. This person is a success in both her career and in giving back to the community. The award is named after the late Sandra Cherry, who was an outstanding lawyer, serving as Assistant United States Attorney, and as President of the Arkansas Bar Association in 2001-2002. Winner of the U.S. Department of Justice’s 1999 Directors Award for superior performance by an Assistant United States Attorney, Sandra handled cases that became models for prosecutions across the country.

Lisa Fischer is a long-time broadcaster and writer in Little Rock. She was raised by her cousins in Dermott, the Gibson family, after living in Newark, NJ, and New Orleans. She quickly picked up southern charm by attending the University of Arkansas where she received a degree in journalism public relations/advertising.
Lisa began her broadcast career at KATV Channel 7 in Little Rock and then moved to KARK Channel 4 where she hosted the hard-hitting news segment, Dialing for Dollars and worked as their entertainment reporter all the while working her day job in radio. In 1993, she hung up the TelePrompter and headphones to raise and homeschool her three children. Lisa was lured back into radio in 2006 just to “fill in for a few days” on the morning show on B98.5 which became a 12-year gig.
Lisa has just retired from the daily grind of a 4:00 a.m. alarm of the morning radio, but she’s busier than ever with many side hustles. She’s a contributor to AY Magazine; she hosts a podcast, is featured in home improvement TV commercials all over the country, host of a lifestyle website www.lisafischersaid.com, and hosts a Youtube channel. She and her husband Kris have been married for 30 years and are the parents of three adult children and one really cute granddaughter.
